Densmore then convinced Philo Remington (the rifle manufacturer) to market the device. In 1874, the first typewriter called "Sholes & Glidden Typewriter" was available to the public. The first typewriter was not very successful. After a few years, and more work, Remington engeineers gave they typewriter very popular.
